| Main Menu | About Us The IHN offers short-term housing to the invisible homeless, families that don’t qualify for shelter parents with teenagers of the opposite sex and two parent families with children trying to stay together. In the IHN program, a host congregation furnishes clean, safe overnight lodging and nutritious meals for up to 14 people or 4 families for one week every three to four months. During the Host Week, other congregations may provide addtitional volunteers to support the host group - making healthy breakfasts and suppers, playing with children or helping them study, and talking with parents. Each day, guests are transported to the Day Center at the corner on Miller Ave. in downtown Akron, OH. Here, guests have access to laundry and shower facilities, as well as a telephone and an address to use when filling out job applications. The permanent address offers stability for children, who can stay enrolled in school, and for parents as they apply for housing or social service benefits. The Network Director and the Outreach Worker are available to help the
guests in their search for permanent housing and, if necessary, employment
and benefits. |
